Staph Infections Causes

Staph infections can result due to a number of reasons. Listed below are some of the ways in which staph bacteria can enter your system.

Through The Skin:

S.Aureus bacteria can already be present on your skin and can break into it if your skin becomes very weak and fragile. For example shaving can cause skin irritation which might increase your chances of getting a staph infection.

Food Poisoning:

S.Aureus bacteria can also thrive on food that is not handled or stored properly. The staph bacteria then releases dangerous toxins into the food and leaves absolutely no signs of spoilage. S.Aureus can thrive in food that has not been kep hot enough or cold enough. Food products such as meat, eggs, tuna, tuna, potatoes, chicken, cream pies, mayonaise salads and various other dairy products are highly susceptible to S.Aureus bacteria if not stored under proper conditions.

Through Tampons:

The staph infection spread through tampons usually results in a syndrome known as toxic shock syndrome.(TSS). Toxic shock syndrome can be caused as a result of using super absorbent tampons. The moist tampons can turn into a breeding ground for staph bacteria (or) can cause vaginal irritation increasing the bacteria's chances of entering the bloodstream. This syndrome is often fatal but can also be caused due to other reasons.

Weak Immune System:

Staph bacteria can also break in as a result of a weak immune system. For example a patient with rheumatoid arthritis would be at a much greater risk of developing a staph infection due to the weaking of the immune system caused by the arthritis drugs.

MRSA:

MRSA refers to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. It is a specific strain of staph that is resistant to most of the commonly used staph antibiotics. Patients in hospitals are at a greater risk of developing MRSA due to their weakened immune system (or) if their wounds are open. MRSA can also be transmitted to the patient by medical professionals who do not wash their hands properly after moving from one patient to another.Young children, jail prisoners who are usually in a state of poor health, athletes in physical contact sports and cystic fibrosis patients are also at a risk of developing MRSA infections.
